Meet the farmer.

Finca Las Nubes, situated just 15 minutes from Pitalito in the township of Agua Negra, Pitalito, Huila, is a collaborative venture involving seasoned professionals from all sectors of the coffee supply chain. The team includes Claudia Samboni, co-owner of Aromas del Sur which includes three coffee farms (Finca Monteblanco, Finca El Progreso, and Finca La Loma) and the Aromas del Sur dry mill; Vicente Mejia, an exporter with Clearpath Coffee; Ricardo Pereira, founder of Due South Coffee Roasters; and Mark Trujillo, owner of The Hub Coffee Co in Reno, Nevada. This partnership leverages their collective expertise to emphasize quality and sustainability in every aspect of coffee production.

Purchased in early 2020, Las Nubes is a 27-hectare farm perched atop a mountain with an unobstructed view of the Laboyos Valley. The farm experiences mild daytime temperatures of 18-21°C and cooler nighttime temperatures of 10-12°C, creating an ideal environment for coffee cultivation. The property includes a main building with a drying space, a rainwater collection system, an automated cherry floating system, a depulper, and a 10,000 kg capacity mechanical silo for processing coffee.

The farm was initially planted with Caturra, Pacamara, Pink Bourbon, and Gesha varieties. While efforts were made to rejuvenate these trees to produce high-quality coffee, plans are also in place to introduce less common varieties like Mokka and Sudan Rume.

Las Nubes is recognized for its exceptional Pink Bourbon coffee. The farm's commitment to quality has been acknowledged through various accolades, such as first place in the Yara Champion Program 2017 and a silver award in 2018, both for Pink Bourbon. In 2019, the farm also won first place with washed purple Caturra at the Roasters United competition.

The location of Las Nubes allows for the strategic meeting of air currents from the Laboyos Valley with the mountain freshness of the surrounding natural reserve. This unique environmental setting contributes to the production of excellent coffees. The farm not only serves as a place for coffee cultivation but also as a research space to further enhance coffee quality.

The Aromas del Sur team oversees processes such as germination, production, and export, ensuring that their coffee reaches a global audience. The dedication to quality and innovation at Las Nubes makes it a standout in the coffee industry, leaving a lasting legacy of excellence.
