El Trópico comes from the lush hills of Acevedo, in Colombia’s southern department of Huila — a region celebrated for producing some of the country’s most expressive coffees. With elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 masl, rich volcanic soil, and a mild climate, Acevedo offers ideal conditions for slow-grown, high-quality coffee.

This lot is made up of two iconic Colombian varieties — Caturra and Colombia — both known for their adaptability and their role in shaping the country’s specialty coffee scene. It was processed using a traditional washed method, which brings out the coffee’s natural clarity and structure. After selective handpicking, the cherries are depulped and fermented in tanks for 12 to 36 hours, then thoroughly washed and dried on raised beds or patios until the right moisture level is reached.

The coffee was sourced through Qima’s Special Reserve series — a line focused on clean, consistent, and scalable coffees that maintain strong traceability and quality at origin. Qima works directly with producers and smallholder groups, and their Colombia team has been instrumental in expanding access to specialty markets through farmer-first, transparent sourcing.

El Trópico is a reflection of that work — clean, approachable, and rooted in the craft of traditional processing and thoughtful selection. A beautiful representation of Huila's terroir and Colombia’s commitment to quality.
